Several key factors are driving tremendous commercial growth
in this region: It’s prime coastal location, between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, NC, attracts
tourists and those looking to live in a milder climate. Three regional hospitals—Dosher
Memorial, Brunswick Community Hospital and New Hanover Regional Medical Center—have
all recently expanded to accommodate the demand for medical services. There is
also a continuous flow of new services to support Brunswick County’s
surging commercial growth. Strong retail sales, a booming housing
market and low unemployment are driving the economy forward, and
this trend positions the area for continued economic confidence.
Two nearby commercial airports offer a convenient range of travel
options: Myrtle Beach Airport, with non-stop flights to major cities
is a 1hour drive. Wilmington International, with non-stop service
to Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, New York and Pittsburg (and soon,
direct flights to London), is a 30-minute drive. These two airports
grow continuously, adding services to meet demand. This makes for
smoother, less time-consuming travel for business flyers. The local
Brunswick County airport handles general aviation traffic.
The Port of Wilmington is 20 miles north on the Cape Fear River,
with a new international shipping port currently being considered
for Southport.
